Wes was born in Denver Colorado to Dwayne and Carla Beard. He was preceded in death by his father, who died on May 21, 2005. He is survived by his mother; his sister, Lindsay Beard, and her two children; two uncles and their families on his father's side; and three cousins on his mother’s side.
Wes lived his first 10 years in Bailey, CO. He was certainly “all boy” and spent lots of time entertaining himself by playing with the dogs, riding his bike, pushing anything that would make tracks in the dirt, playing with tonka trucks, riding his 1 st dirt bike at 5 yrs. old, riding horses with family, going camping and cutting firewood with his mom and dad, snowmobiling, and 4-wheeling. He was in AWANAS and cub scouts and attended church regularly. He played T-Ball at 5, and recreational baseball and football. In 1988 and 89 his parents ran The Davidson Lodge in Evergreen and Wes spent many happy days tubing and fishing in lower Bear Creek. Wes had a happy-go-lucky sweet spirit and was full of life.
In 1990, his family moved to Arvada, where Wes graduated from Arvada West high school in 1996. He began BMX bike racing in his junior high years, and the family traveled around Colorado’s racing circuit for him to compete. He acquired his first jeep in his junior year of high school and couldn’t wait to start 4-wheeling down around the South Platte area where he had seen home movies and heard stories about treacherous hills his parents and their jeep club used to climb. He was unable to continue his football career after tearing his ACL at the play-off game in his junior year. But after healing from surgery and PT, he learned to snowboard and developed new interests. He went from riding dirt bikes to racing crotch rockets and having “wheely” contests. Oh, and there was the phase of “break dancing” in his adolescent years. He loved to tease and smile and laugh a lot, and was very independent.
Weston moved to Gunnison soon after graduating from high school in 1996 where, for the most part, he has lived between there and Crested Butte ever since. He worked as an electrician and carpenter, earning job referrals through word-of-mouth. His entrepreneurial drive led him to pursue a variety of ventures throughout his life. He still loved all things outdoors, especially fishing. He volunteered his time and talents to help others and once helped build a large golden eagle habitat building for Second Chance Wildlife Rehab & Rehabilitation in Price, UT. He studied God’s word and shared his faith with many.
Unfortunately, Wes passed away too soon and will be deeply missed. Wes’ mother and sister will cherish his lovely brown eyes, his wit, and his warm bear hugs. They find solace knowing Wes had faith in Jesus as his Savior, believing that those who belong to Him are forever secure. Wes lost his battle to addiction and depression. In honor of Wes, please BE the intervention for someone, take suicidal threats seriously, encourage those struggling with addiction to get help. We pray that all those who knew him and spent time with him will find their way to Jesus as their Savior. That way you’ll all see each other again.
Celebration of life TBD. Favorite memories or pictures may be sent to Carla Beard, 2515 Maple Hill Drive, Ft. Collins, CO 80524. Or make a donation to an Alcohol Treatment Center or Suicide Prevention organization in Wes’ name.
Rest in peace my son. I love you.
