Violet Roeland

Violet Roeland met Jesus face to face on January 14, 2026, though she walked with Jesus each day of her 91 years.

Violet was born on April 1, 1934 in Passaic, New Jersey to Michael and Sophie Sumnick. Violet was the fifth born of 13 children. After only one year of high school she began working on her family farm. At the age of 21 Violet married Peter Roeland and had two children, Lily and Rosemary both born in Wallington, New Jersey.

After retirement Violet moved from Moonachie, NJ to Grand Junction, Colorado. While in Grand Junction Violet was active in several churches including the Salvation Army where she was recognized as a "Soldier," the Mission Church, Calvary Bible Church and most recently First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Violet's faith led her to share the gospel in a variety of ways, from covering her car with bumper stickers to wearing Jesus T-shirts to leading hymn-sings at local nursing homes.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, and her significant other Hank Hoodiman. She is survived by her daughters Lily (Bill) Fitch of Grand Junction, and Rosemary (Richard) Bonine of Grand Junction, three sisters, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

There will be a service in celebration of her life and faith at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1326 N 1st St., Grand Junction Colorado.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Violet's memory to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Grand Junction or Hope West Hospice.
