Thomas "Tommy" Ray Schultz, age 87, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away on October 12, 2026, following a long-term illness.
Born in Milford, Nebraska, to Alfons C. and Vera (Dixie) E. Schultz, Tommy moved to Grand Junction as a young boy and went on to graduate from Grand Junction High School. A dedicated and hardworking provider, he worked at the Gary Western Refinery until its closure and finished his career delivering supplies to the coal mines until his retirement at age 62.
Tommy was a simple man who found immense joy and deep fulfillment in the things and people he loved most. First and foremost was his family: his beloved wife, Sharon; his daughter, Sue; and his son, Mark.
Beyond his family, Tommy had two lifelong passions that brought him incredible happiness. For over 40 years, he raised game chickens, which meant the world to him. Later in life, he discovered another great joy in horses—a love he shared deeply with his son, Mark. Together, the two raced horses for 21 years, traveling and making countless cherished memories side by side. Of all his roles, perhaps his most precious was being a grandfather to his one and only granddaughter, Taylor Grace. She was a joy to him like no other, and he treasured every special moment they shared together.
Tommy is survived by his loving wife of many years, Sharon Joann Schultz; his daughter, Susan Renay Schultz; his son, Mark Shane Schultz; his treasured granddaughter, Taylor Grace Schultz; his sister, Kay (Schultz) Colson; and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfons and Vera; and his older and younger brothers, Gary Schultz and Kent Schultz.
Honoring Tommy's wishes, he was a simple man who did not want a traditional service. The family will be holding a private ceremony to celebrate his life and memory.
