Terrial Macarthur Hinkle

Terrial MacArthur Hinkle, born September 30, 1943, in Fairfax, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home in Grand Junction, Colorado, on July 19, 2026. In the days before his passing, he was surrounded by the love of his family, which was exactly how he would have wanted it—close to the people he loved and probably with somebody listening to one more story.

Terrial joined the Navy during the Vietnam War in 1964, where he served for four years. After his military service, he worked a few different jobs before becoming a driller for Peabody in Hayden, Colorado. He later moved to Winnemucca, Nevada, in 1989, where he began drilling in the gold and silver mines. He retired in 2007 and spent hisretirement doing what he did best: enjoying time with his family and reminding everyone that he had already done the hard part. In 2019, Terrial moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, with his daughter Regina and her husband Jay Thompson.

Terrial was a funny man who loved to tell stories, and he never told them in a small way. His stories came with animation, detail, and enough personality to make even the simplest event sound like a legendary adventure. He was the kind of man who could make you laugh, shake your head, and ask, “Now, did that really happen?” He showed his love quietly—through his strong work ethic, his willingness to help, and by always showing up for the people he loved, even when it was hard.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, and golfing, though anyone who knew him understood that the real sport was keeping up with him and his stories. Above all, he loved his family.

Terrial is survived by his son David Hinkle and his wife Jaime of Ely, Nevada; daughter Regina and her husband Jay Thompson of Grand Junction, Colorado; and son Chad Hinkle of Elko, Nevada. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Allen Hinkle, Jaylen Hinkle, Dominique Turner, Theresa Thompson, Delanie Thompson, Hailey Card, and Caleb Hinkle, as well as countless great-grandchildren.

He is also survived by his brothers, Edwin Hinkle and Weldon Hinkle, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Hinkle and Sylvia Hinkle, along with many brothers and sisters.

A service honoring Terrial’s life will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Grand Junction, Colorado, on August 7, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.

His stories, his humor, his hard work, and the quiet ways he showed his love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him—and in a few cases, in the middle of a story that started with, “Now listen, because this is the good part.”
