Roy Charles Shults

January 31, 1926 — May 17, 2022

Roy was born in lime Colorado on 31, Jan 1926, and had 3 brothers and one sister. They were all put up for adoption and would have never seen each other again except for an Ann Landers article in a national newspaper about the children which put them in touch with each other as adults.
At 17 years old he joined the Navy and was stationed on Saipan during WWII. He was very proud of his military service. At the end of the war, he married his high school sweetheart, Helen and finished high school. They moved from Delta to Grand Junction where he learned the sheet metal trade and put the heating and cooling in Grand Junction and Central high schools, among many other buildings.
He loved working with his hands, making many things with wood, not limited to wooden cars and trucks his grandchildren and great grandchildren often played with. As a young boy he hooked a 2-speed wringer washer transmission to a bicycle making the first 2 speed bicycle and sparking a lifetime of inventions. He also enjoyed flowers and gardening.
He lived for five years at Grand Villa assisted living where he made many close friends. He always went on their city tours and had stories about the city when it was small. He loved a good story and making friends. He lived at the VA the last six months and was planning a garden when he passed on 17 May 2022. He was always looking forward in life and never back. He loved life and he loved the Lord. Words do little justice in explaining his big heart and kind nature.
Roy leaves behind his son Mike, his daughter-in-law Cindy, his grandson Tyson, two great grandchildren Shaylene and Preston and stepfamily, Todd Wright, Holly, Brady and Gannon, and Jason Theis, Amy, Brynley and Nick. He is preceded in death by his wife Helen and grandson Shane.
Roy will be laid to rest with full military honors at the Grand Junction Cemetery 26 ¼ Rd to Legacy Way in the veterans section, next to his wife, on Orchard Mesa Wednesday May 25, 2022, at 3:00 pm
