Nancy Lee Kite

October 9, 1936 — March 4, 2024

Nancy Lee Kite, of Grand Junction, Colorado died peacefully at HopeWest on March 4th, 2024 at the age of 87.
She was born Nancy Lee Riechers October 9, 1936 in Beatrice, Nebraska to Herman and Roberta Riechers. She spent her childhood in Nebraska and graduated from Valentine Rural High School in 1954.

Nancy married Ted Middaugh in 1956 and had four children: Bill, Steve, Jerry and Jeannie. They later divorced. She married John Kite on August 1,1970. They had a son, Brian, and together raised five children, spending 53 years as husband and wife.

As a busy mom of five, Nancy found Avon and worked with the company for 33 years. She built an impressive business and received the President’s Club Award year after year. Her beautiful Albee dolls were displayed in her dining room as a reminder of her hard work. She formed many lasting friendships with her customers over the years. Nancy was a member of the Beta Tau Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority for over 30 years, doing great philanthropic work in our community. She was an avid Bridge player and enjoyed bridge club every Thursday for many years.
As her kids grew up, moved, and had families of their own she never missed a chance to connect with them. Whether traveling by car or train to be there in person, a beautifully written cursive letter, or a chat on the phone while John listened in from the basement, she made sure you knew she was thinking of you.
In retirement, she enjoyed family get togethers, communicating on her iPad, and playing cards.
She was a woman of great strength, courage, and love. She lives on in the memory of her famous chocolate cake, Rocky Road ice cream,  her beautiful rose garden, her love of the Colorado Rockies and the life moments she captured that became our family’s history.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Herman and Roberta Riechers. She is survived by her husband John Kite, sister Laura Clark, sons Bill (Shirley) Middaugh, Steve (Jeanette) Middaugh, Jerry Middaugh, daughter Jeannie (Matt) Smith, son Brian (Rachel) Kite, 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at HopeWest Hospice for the gentle and loving care they provided our beloved mom and grandma.
