Matthew D. Padilla, born on July 18, 1995, in Grand Junction, Colorado, departed this world far too soon on May 10, 2025, leaving behind a tapestry of memories woven from laughter, talent, and an adventurous spirit. At 29, Matt was a vibrant force of nature, whose zest for life was nothing short of infectious. His talents spanned various realms, as he was a true "Jack of all trades" in carpentry, yet the intricate art of drywall was where his heart and passion truly lay. Throughout his career, he transformed many luxury homes in Aspen and Snowmass into masterpieces, leaving his mark not just in craftsmanship but in the hearts of those who knew him.
Much like a scene from a movie, Matthew's early years were characterized by an unquenchable thirst for speed. At just three years old, he fearlessly rode his big wheel tricycle down the steep hills of Rifle, a precursor to his later adventures on a dirt bike at the tender age of seven. His affinity for adrenaline never waned and as an adult, he thrived on the thrill of pushing his bike to its absolute limits, embodying the motto that seemed to guide every choice he made: "if you ain't first, you're last." Each rush of wind beneath him was a reminder that life is meant to be lived fully, and this he did with incredible fervor.
Matthew's charisma was as bright as his blue contacts, illuminating every room he entered. His infectious smile and off-handed humor drew laughter from friends and strangers alike, rendering him the quintessential life of any gathering. Although he was seldom on time, he was undeniably always a good time. To know Matt was to love him—the kind of presence that made moments unforgettable. He had an uncanny gift for charming his way through life's challenges and made friends effortlessly wherever he ventured.
Matthew took immense pride in his accomplishments, none more significant than that of his daughter, Amelia Brownson. He often boasted about her tremendous talent in basketball, a reflection of the pride he held for his family. Family to him was paramount, and he cherished every moment spent with them, be it snowboarding on fresh powder, engaging in video games, or simply taking selfies to capture the joy of those moments.
His passions extended beyond adrenaline alone; he harbored a love for Marvel comics and anime, weaving these interests into the vibrant fabric of his life. The many hobbies and interests he nurtured characterized a man who lived unbound by convention and who embraced every color of life's palette.
Matthew leaves behind a loving family, including his devoted mother, Diane Padilla, and father, Luis Sanchez Martinez. He is mourned deeply by his daughter, Amelia, and cherished siblings Adam (Shannon) Padilla, Joshua Gilcrease, Santanna Salazar, Nikkia Ashcraft, David Candeleria, alongside Fernando Candeleria and Stephanie Candeleria. His legacy continues through his adoring nieces and nephew: Shelbey Kerrigan, Desiraye Gallegos, Tiana Padilla, Viviana Padilla, Genesis Salazar, and Ezekiel Salazar. Though he took with him a radiant spirit and a thunderous laugh, those left behind will forever hold close the memories of a remarkable man.
He is reunited in the afterlife with his beloved grandfathers, Ben (Sabe) Lobato and Willie (Wiggs) Gallegos, and his uncles Randy Padilla and Geno Gallegos. Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit shall endure, echoing through the laughs shared amongst friends and family, inspiring them to chase their own wild dreams and live each day as he did—full of life, speed, and boundless love.
