Janie Mutchler

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Janie passed away at Hope West on January 12, at the age of 85, following a battle with bone cancer. Janie had a long and rewarding life. Janie is survived by her husband Jerry,three children , Amy, Mark and Julie, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Janie was born in Tecumseh Nebraska. She lived on the family farm with her parents and brother. There she developed her lifetime love for all animals, and especially dogs, cats and horses. Janie graduated from Peru State College in Nebraska, with a degree in Elementary Education. She then accepted a teaching position in the Jefferson County school district in the Denver area. She taught at Reed Street Elementary School. Janie encouraged excellence. She knew the names of all of her students and followed their progress through future grades.

Jerry and Janie married in 1962, followed by a 62 year marriage. They called it their 62 year adventure and voyage together. They were blessed with three children, Amy, Mark and Julie. Jerry and Janie attended all of their school events. 

There were many domestic and foreign travels but what Janie most enjoyed was sitting and relaxing in their back yard and talking with Jerry. Janie also enjoyed walking the neighborhood with Jerry and their dog and visiting with their neighbor friends. Janie also enjoyed walking the local parks and hikes in the mountains. Janie had a gifted memory and remembered the name of every one she met and the name of every dog and cat she met. She always had a treat for pets. Janie loved people and people loved her.

Janie is survived by her husband Jerry, daughter Amy Smith {Chris Smith, Dustin Smith, Brandon Franklin}, Mark Mutchler and Julie Cross { husband Bryan, twins Courtney Cross, Cassie Cross} and great grand daughters Kylie Smith and McKenna Smith.

Janie said she was going to save a place in heaven for Jerry so they can continue their adventure and voyage together, forever.

Their will be a memorial service for Janie at Redlands United Methodist Church Saturday, February 24 th at 10:00 A.M.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Redlands United Methodist Church or to Hope West.
