Marcus Jay Chaney

June 15, 1982 — February 19, 2026

Marcus Jay Chaney, a devoted family man, a cherished friend, and a spirited individual known for his generosity and heartfelt kindness, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in Fruita, Colorado. Born on June 15, 1982, in Denver, Colorado, Marcus’s journey through life was marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear.

Marcus graduated from Rifle High School in 2000 before embarking on a path that took him to Arizona in 2002. It was there, in March of 2005, that he met the love of his life, Sarah. Together, they started a family with the birth of Noeah in 2007. The following year, Marcus and Sarah married and moved back to Colorado, where he initially worked in the oilfield. His career later transitioned into the automotive industry, where he found his true calling in car sales and finance with Red Rock Auto—a role he embraced wholeheartedly.

Known for his infectious laugh, beautiful smile, and gentle heart, Marcus embodied strength and an adventurous spirit. His humor and protectiveness were constants in his life, as was his remarkable positivity, even during some of the most challenging times. Diagnosed in November 2021 with stage 4 colorectal cancer, Marcus faced his illness with courage and determination. Despite numerous surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, and plans to begin a clinical trial in Arizona in 2026, his health declined rapidly. In his final days, Marcus chose to be surrounded by his beloved family at home.

His personality shone brightly through his acts of kindness. Marcus was known for giving the shirt off his back to anyone in need, a testament to his loyal and generous spirit. He was a devoted friend, a man of genuine kindness, and someone who deeply loved his family. Marcus took great pride in his work ethic and the strong relationship he nurtured with his faith.

His passions were many and vibrant. He loved watching Denver Broncos football, snowboarding, and enjoying the warmth of summertime. Gardening, cooking, grilling and smoking meats, traveling, and supporting his children in their sports were all activities that brought him joy. Vacations to Cabo San Lucas and other destinations were treasured moments shared with those closest to him.

Marcus is survived by his loving wife Sarah, their children Noeah, Ryker, and Layla, and their bonus son Gael. He was a proud grandfather to Ryver and Joleen Chaney. He leaves behind his mother, Heidi Rung; father, Mark Chaney; brothers Robby Moore of Colorado and Chris Chaney along with his family in Arizona; and his grandmothers Ami-Trudy Rung of Colorado and Oma Barbara "Honey" Chaney of Arizona. Marcus also is remembered fondly by numerous cousins, nieces, uncles, and aunts who grieve the loss of a beloved family member and friend.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Mason Jay Chaney and his grandfathers Norbert Rung, affectionately known as Api, and Jay S. Chaney, known as Opa.

Marcus’s proudest accomplishments were centered around his family and the distance they traveled together through life’s journey. His professional achievements with Red Rock Auto and the deepening of his spiritual life were sources of fulfillment and happiness for him.
