Mahaya Janett Garner, known affectionately as "Hater Jo" passed away suddenly on June 25, 2024. She was born on May 6, 2004, in her beloved hometown of Grand Junction, CO. Mahaya was a force of nature, characterized by her quick wit and fiery personality that could effortlessly transition from caregiver to prankster. Mahaya showcased her determination and playful spirit from a young age.
Mahaya's educational journey culminated in her graduation from Central High School in Grand Junction in 2022. Despite shouldering a full time position at Q-Doba, where she eventually rose to the role of manager, Mahaya managed to graduate ahead of schedule, a testament of her work ethic and drive for her success.
Mahaya joined Glass Doctor of Montrose as a new employee on July 5th, 2023. She had only experienced the restaurant industry and knew little about glass or what it would take to complete her daily tasks. She was willing to take on the challenge and worked hard to prove herself in an industry full of constant challenges. Everyone has to start somewhere to become something great, and that's just what she did. She was diligent in learning her job and respectful and professional to customers and vendors. She had daily challenges but worked her way to a solution. She was serious about her career and proved she loved it every day. She was more than just an employee; she created an atmosphere of kindness for those who came to love her. She always had a smile and something silly to say to make the day more enjoyable. At the end of each day, her crystal blue eyes would sparkle, and she would say, "Toodles."
Her vibrant personality was marked by a mischievous streak, kind-hearted nature, and unwavering devotion to her family. Mahaya enjoyed family events and it brought her great joy in taking on the role of hostess at all the get togethers. Mahaya had a reputation for being ornery yet endearing-a friend to all who cherished every moment spent with loved ones. She had a knack for giving thoughtful gifts and embraced new experiences with open arms, always eager for adventure despite her perpetual tardiness.
From a young age, she demonstrated determination and spunk by using her pink cast to stand up for what she believed in-even if it meant taking on her older brother Riley for the chair she wanted. Her ornery yet kind hearted nature made her a friend to all, and her family oriented outlook on life brought warmth to those lucky enough to know her.
In her leisure time, Mahaya found solace in the great outdoors-whether hiking, camping, or indulging in the occasional fishing trip. She also enjoyed the simple pleasures of shopping and cooking for her family and her beloved dog Beau. Her days were made brighter by the presence of family and friends; she shared special moments with her little sister Calyx, treating her to day dates and bonding over all things girly. Mahaya infused every moment with love and laughter.
Among Mahaya's proudest accomplishments was becoming independent and excelling in her career-an achievement that reflected her resilience and determination. She leaves behind cherished memories with surviving family members including (Mom) Amia, (Papa) Randy, (Father) Jesse, (Brothers) Riley, Kamren and Raven, (Little Sister) Calyx, as well as Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and many friends who will forever remember her vivacious spirit.
A memorial service to celebrate Mahaya's life will be held on Thursday July 18, 2024, at 2:00 pm, at Canyon View Vineyard Church in the South Chapel, Grand Junction. In leu of flowers please bring a plant to contribute to her memory garden. Mahaya's favorite colors were turquoise and slate blue so we encourage everyone to wear blue.
Mahaya you will be deeply missed but never forgotten!
