June Rose Brumfield passed away peacefully on November 28th, Thanksgiving Day at Western Slope Memory Care in Grand Junction, CO.
June was born on June 24, 1942, in Briggsville, Arkansas to Earnest and Ruby Nelle Sanner. Her family moved to Monte Vista, CO in 1957 where they established Sanner Bros. Salvage. June left Arkansas as a star basketball player, and although sadly Monte Vista did not have a women’s basketball for their school at the time; June still became highly involved in other school activities and excelled.
She attended CO State University and received her degree in education from Adams State College in Alamosa CO. During those years of achieving her higher education she also competed in the Miss Colorado Pageant, as well as being a dedicated member of the First Baptist church in Monte Vista and the order of the Eastern Star.
Over the years she was a beloved teacher to all her second-grade students, many of whom remember her fondly even in their adult years. She impacted so many lives and knew she had to continue substitute teaching even past her retirement for many more years.
During the holiday seasons she was known throughout the community for her delicious homemade peanut brittle that she enjoyed sharing with everyone.
June is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Dick Brumfield. She is survived by her sister Glenda Bedoka of Chino Hills, California, her brother Micheal Sanner, and sister in-law Katherine Boyer of Germantown, TN. as well as her two sons and their families. Scott and Carrie Brumfield of Monta Vista, Greg Brumfield of Palisade, CO.
She was a wonderful Mother, Sister, and Friend who will be greatly missed.
