John Charles Halgat, fondly known as "Jack," was born on August 15, 1956, in Hemet, California. He passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, in Grand Junction, Colorado, surrounded by his loved ones. Jack was a remarkable individual, known for his unwavering dedication and multifaceted talents.

Jack enjoyed a long and fulfilling career, spending over 30 years at the Port of San Diego, CA, where he earned immense respect for his work. He was a Jack of all trades, indeed, and a master of all. His artistic carpentry skills were unparalleled, and he embraced every project with passion and expertise. In addition, he was a mason, further demonstrating his craftsmanship and dedication to his work. He was also a stage rigger for famous bands in the 80s and 90s.

Education played a part in shaping Jack's artistic abilities. He attended technical school, which laid the foundation for his diverse skill set. Despite living in a haunted house, he faced life’s challenges with a warm heart and an unwavering spirit.

As a people person who never met a stranger, Jack had a unique ability to connect with those around him. He was fiercely loyal to his family and friends, always offering a caring presence. Known for his fantastic dry sense of humor, bringing joy and laughter to every gathering. Jack had an exceptional love for animals, melting at the sight of any dog, and he was especially fond of rescuing teddy bears. His heart was as big as his personality.

Jack’s passions extended to outdoor adventures, where he found joy in fishing, shooting, and archery. His love for woodworking complemented his artistic side, while his guitar playing demonstrated yet another layer of his creativity. Among his hobbies, he enjoyed reloading ammunition and had a lighthearted approach to growing pot, recognizing his limitations in that area.

Jack took immense pride in his family, particularly his four daughters: Taryn, Jessica, Monique, and Alby. He cherished all of his grandchildren, emphasizing the importance of family bonds. His legacy is carried on by his wife Vivian of more than 20 years, his best friend and sister Tina Hancock, brother-in-law Bill Hancock, daughters Taryn and Jessica Halgat, granddaughter Lily Steadman, niece Tori Hancock, and nephew Jeremy Halgat.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaret Halgat, as well as his uncle William T. Halgat. Jack will be remembered as a devoted family man, a skilled craftsman, and a friend to all. His spirit will undoubtedly live on in the memories of those who knew and loved him.
