John Lawrence Abeyta, a cherished husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by those who loved him in Montrose, Colorado, at the age of 78 after a short battle with cancer. He is with his Lord and Savior.
Born December 13,1947 in Tiffany Colorado, John lived a life marked by dedication to his wife, daughter and grandchildren. John graduated from Ignacio High School. John was drafted into the US Army and served as a Door Gunner in the Viet Nam war. John was employed by the Mesa County Sheriff's Department for 24 years and retired as a Lieutenant. His work ethic was admired by colleagues and friends alike. In 2021 he and his beloved wife Doddie moved to Cobble Creek in Montrose, Colorado from Durango Colorado. After his retirement he enjoyed golfing, camping, and fishing. John was a man of integrity and warmth, known for his kindness and generosity. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter and grandchildren. His presence brought joy and comfort to those around him and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents John B. and Isabel (Barry) Abeyta and daughter Sheryl Lynn. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years Doddie, loving daughter Brenna (Rob) Watson, sister Doreen Candelaria, brothers Gene (Suzanne) Abeyta, Fred (Sharon) Abeyta, Preston (Angie) Abeyta, and grandchildren John and Isabella.
His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his family and friends.
