Jim Adamson

Jim Adamson, 70, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer on July 9th, 2026 in Grand Junction, CO. He was born on February 4th, 1954 in Fruita, CO. Jim was raised on the family farm and was a 1974 graduate of Fruita Monument High School. He enlisted in the US  Army in the late 1970’s as a proud infantryman, serving for 10 years, mostly in Korea along the DMZ, achieving the rank of Sergeant. Upon his release from active duty, Jim began a fulfilling 25 year career (ret.) with the Grand Junction VA hospital.

Jim loved western Colorado. He enjoyed spending his time backpacking and exploring the wilderness areas surrounding the Grand Valley. Jim also enjoyed landscape photography, spending time with his friends, reading books about WWII, and refurbishing old bicycles for back-country use. He would disappear for a few days, only to return with harrowing stories and photos of outdoor adventures on the Grand Mesa or some faraway canyon. Jim also knew every stretch of railroad tracks in western Colorado and eastern Utah, as he was a locomotive enthusiast. One of Jim’s favorite activities, as he got older, was walking along the railroad tracks with his sister, Lana, at sunrise and sunset. Jim will be remembered by those who knew him best as an incredibly strong, fearless, and independent man with a tremendous smile that lit up when he greeted you. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.

Jim was a lifelong bachelor who never married or had children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Bud” and Mary Adamson (Duran), and his eldest sister, Yvonne Shreeves. He is survived by his eldest brother, Charles Adamson, and his youngest sister, Lana Vigil, both of Fruita, CO. Jim is also survived by nieces and nephews from Colorado and California.

Internment and military funeral honors for Jim Adamson will be on Thursday, July 23rd at 10:00am at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Grand Junction, CO. All who knew Jim are welcome to the service to celebrate his life and share memories.
