Horace R. Sessions, Jr, born on November 4, 1946, left this life on June 21, 2025. He was a native of the Eastern US, who became a longtime resident of Colorado, civic leader, and chemist. He was 78 years old.
Throughout his childhood, Horace regularly applied his early fascination with chemistry to the surprise of his siblings with his amazing homemade chemistry lab. He was a precocious and inquisitive child who excelled in academics and athletics.
Horace graduated with honors from Baltimore City College in 1964. Through his accomplishments, he received a full academic scholarship to Bowdoin college in Brunswick, Maine. After Bowdoin, he earned his master's degree from Bucknell in 1971.
His career as a chemist started with his move to Colorado, where he lived in several different areas before settling in Grand Junction. He retired several years ago from Cray Valley Chemical.
While living in Colorado, Horace made numerous friends due to his affable personality and genuine friendliness. Horace's desire to help others led him to become a past President of the Redlands Rotary Club and Vice-chair of the Local Emergency Planning Committee.
His quick wit, sense of humor, and jovialness made him a favorite at parties and other social gatherings. He was also a world traveler who embraced many cultures and traditions. Horace loved chemistry, traveling, wine making, partying, dining on steaks cooked rare, and helping in the community.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace R., Sr. and Evelyn Brown. He is survived by his siblings: Lillie (William), Richard, Abdullah, Evelyn, Bevelyn, Zelda, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins plus one special friend, Patricia (Patty), who was his companion for several years and other good friends too numerous to count.
