Eugene Lee Hoeckendorf, born on November 16, 1955, in Clifton, Colorado, left this world on October 6, 2025, surrounded by love and memories in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was a concrete finisher and bridge builder whose remarkable skills and craftsmanship left an indelible mark on the communities he served. Eugene was not just known for his profession but also for the warmth and kindness he brought into the lives of all who knew him.
Eugene was the epitome of a family man, always embracing his loved ones with open arms and a smile that would light up any room. He possessed a larger-than-life personality that drew people to him. His joy in life was mirrored in his love for family, friends, and the many adventures they shared. Early fishing trips with his children became cherished memories, filled with laughter and bonding. In his later years, Eugene developed a love for cooking, with his famous stuffed burritos becoming a family favorite.
His passions extended beyond family; Eugene was a dedicated fan of the Chicago Bears and had a love for fishing, hunting, and camping. His spiritual side was just as vibrant; he cherished the moments spent in the house of the Lord, always seeking to uplift those around him. Eugene had an uncanny ability to make everyone laugh and feel valued. He was a helping hand to those in need, embodying a spirit of unconditional love for everyone and everything in his life.
Eugene's proudest accomplishments were the day he became a father, the day he became a grandfather, and the commitment made to his role as a devoted husband. He leaves behind his beloved children, Eugene C. Hoeckendorf Jr., Jacob Lee Hoeckendorf, and Ladawn Michelle Mills, who carry forward his legacy of kindness and strength. The joys of his life also extend to his grandchildren: Logan Gallaway, Braydon Hoeckendorf, Chalynn Hoeckendorf, Madison Hoeckendorf, Austin Mills, and Dalton Mills, who were the light of his life.
Eugene is now reunited with those who preceded him in death: his dear sister, Carol Morgan; his loving mother, Ruth Hoeckendorf; and his father, Cliff Hoeckendorf, as well as his cherished spouse, Debbie Hoeckendorf. Together, they will watch over the family he adored so deeply.
