Eldon Craig Clinkenbeard, known to many as Craig and affectionately as “Clink,” passed away at home in Grand Junction, Colorado, on September 13, 2026. He was born on October 9, 1961, in Grand Junction, and Colorado remained the place he loved as home throughout his life.
Craig built a 45-year career as a truck driver, a role he proudly described as being a “material transportation engineer.” He loved the road and the chance it gave him to see and experience the country from coast to coast. Some of his most treasured miles were those shared team driving with his wife, Shanon. He also took pride in teaching the “rough necks” how it was done at rig sites, bringing both skill and confidence to his work. His years behind the wheel reflected not only dedication and endurance, but also a genuine love for the life he built.
He was known for his ornery spirit and his no-filter humor, qualities that made him unforgettable to those who knew him. Craig was much loved by all and had an easy way of making friends wherever he happened to be. His adventurous nature drew him toward new scenery and new experiences, and he was especially proud to have visited all 50 states. For all his love of travel, however, his heart remained firmly rooted in Colorado. He cherished his home and his family, and he always valued having that home base to return to.
Craig is survived by his wife, Shanon Clinkenbeard, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. He also leaves behind his son, Clinton Clinkenbeard, and Nikki, together with their three grandchildren; and his daughter, Shinon Clinkenbeard Powers, and Josh, together with their three grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Norma Jean Johnson and Tina Maye Etherton.
He will also be lovingly remembered by his extended family, including his sister-in-law Shaun Leach and Tracy; his sister-in-law Sandra Dudley and Tim; his sister-in-law Sharon Hulsey and Steve; his brother-in-law Dan Weybright and Paula; and his brother-in-law Joe Weybright. The many family members and friends whose lives he touched will carry forward memories of his humor, his stories, his hard work, and the warmth he brought wherever he went.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Clinkenbeard; his mother, Vera Arline Will; his brother, Doc Rudder; and his sister, Johanna Clinkenbeard.
A Celebration of Life will be held on September 19, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Calvary Chapel, 492 Morning Glory Ln, Grand Junction, Colorado 81504. A livestream will be available at calvarychapelgj.org.
Craig’s life was marked by hard work, laughter, adventure, and deep devotion to the people and places he loved most. He will be dearly missed and warmly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Calvary Chapel in “Clink,” memory.
