David Keith Terrell was born in Rifle Colorado to Keith Elwood and Amy Elizabeth (Green)Terrell on October 18th 1951. David was the middle child of 5 children his older brother Sonny, older sister LeeAnn and followed by younger sisters Judy and Gail. He grew up in Silt, Colorado. He loved to hunt with his dad, brother, uncles, and friends. David developed his horsemanship skills riding the wide variety of horses his father would trade. At 15 he bought his first heifer, starting his dream of being a rancher. He played many sports growing up. He loved playing basketball and played high school basketball and continued to play on town leagues, community teams and with anyone who was near a basketball hoop.
He was voted best legs by his graduating class.
He met Vera Post in 1964 and pursued her and they were married on September 23, 1972. They went into the cow business with Sonny and his wife, Reva (Vera's older sister) buying a grazing permit with help from his parents. Those were rough years for ranching. David worked at Farmland and various construction and roustabout jobs. Sonny decided to get a job in town David was with left the cattle business. David started a roustabout company with Greg Gardner, called D&G Roustabout.
David and Vera had two children. Frances "Frannie" and Keith. David coached Keith's basketball & baseball teams and helped Frannie with her one and only 4H Heifer. He and Vera continued to grow their cattle operation. In the mid-80's they bought a filly named Tiny Flight 309 and started their horse racing adventures. They raised and raced many horses.
He later started his own roustabout company, Terrell Oil and Gas.
David loved and enjoyed his family. He especially loved his neices and nephews.
David was a wonderful listener and would take the time to shoot the breeze. He was generous with his time and labor.
David was a master of improvising.
David was blessed with four grandchildren, granddaughter Grace Rooks and grandsons Klive David Terrell,Joseph Shepardson and Scott Henrie.
David courageously fought and lost his second battle with cancer on September 14th, 2025. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife, Vera and their children Frannie and Keith and his partner Amy Edwards, grandchildren Brother, Lawrence (Sonny) and Reva Terrell, sisters, LeeAnn Short, Judy and Ed Harrison, and Gail and Pete Jansons, sisters-in-law, Ann Hawthorne and Linda Dalton. Nieces, Brett and Angie Terrell, Heather Strouse, and Kate Hawthorne, Nephews, Doug Strouse, Nick (Kathleen Boyden) and Matt (Rebecca Lawler) Miller, John and Ken Jansons. He is survived by many grand nieces and nephews and numerous wonderful cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, his adoring in-laws Charle and Maymie Post and brothers-in-law John Dalton and Mike Short.
