Barbara J Freeman

Barbara J. Freeman, age 89 of Grand Junction, Colorado passed away in care of HopeWest Farris Care Center May 12, 2025

Barbara was born in Wellfleet, Nebraska to John and Zelma Kostic. She grew up in the Wellfleet, North Platte region. Barb married after high school and eventually came to Colorado with her husband Ralph Kelley living in Buena Vista, Colorado. After a divorce, she returned to North Platte with her two children. Barb met and married Robert Freeman. After spending some time in Utah, Nevada and Wyoming they eventually settled in Colorado with her complete family in the West End and the Grand Valley of Colorado of Colorado's Western Slope.

Barbara's working career was long and varied starting with being a telephone operator, then waitress, Vet assistant, dental assistant, book keeper of her family business, a law and emergency dispatcher in the Nucla airport in the West End of Montrose County. She owned and operated a sewing shop and craft business and then ended her working career by retiring form Mesa County Sheriff's office in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Barbara also served the communities she lived in, serving as President of the Nucla, Naturita Chamber of Commerce, a member of Delta Epsilon Sorority and treasure of Faith Lutheran Church, and volunteered at the Senior Companion program with St. Mary's as a senior herself.

With her family she enjoyed fishing and camping, traveling to previous home towns to visit family and friends. Barbara cared for and befriended many people that become a part of her family. She was generous in help, love and guidance to all that accepted it. She was strong in her faith and lived it daily.

Barbara is survived by her children; Deborah, Lori (Bob), and George (Bunny); grand children Kindee (Matt), Robert (Ashley), Liam, Courtney, Kevin, Chrystal (Katie), Holly. Great grandchildren Taylor, Carter, Bob, Meike, Elijah, Madison, Kaleb, Landon, Austin, Cameron. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Freeman, son Timothy, grand daughter Pamela, great grandson Austin, brothers Keith and John.
