Barbara Ann Gruennert

Barbara Ann Gruennert, affectionately known as Barb, passed away on September 19, 2026, in Cedaredge, Colorado. She was born on October 8, 1941, in DeKalb, Illinois, and lived a life marked by steady work, generous service, and deep family bonds.

Barb was a 1959 graduate of Fort Atkinson High School, Wisconsin a milestone that marked the beginning of a life defined by diligence and adaptability. Over the years, she brought her talents and energy to many roles. She worked at CoorsTek as a manufacturing computer chip plater, and also shared her skills through Sport Central and Sportline embroidery and screen printing. Her working life further included time as a clerk at Buffalo Bill's Museum, as a caregiver, and as a school lunch lady. In each setting, she contributed in ways both practical and personal, meeting the needs of the day with commitment and heart. She also served her community as a volunteer firefighter, a role that reflected both courage and a readiness to help others. 

Family was an enduring part of Barb’s life and legacy. She is survived by her sister, Sandra Messmer. She is also lovingly remembered by children  Kimberly Major and Steve, Julie Riggs, Dale Duesterbeck and Michelle, and Vernette Bergstrom and Andy. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Andrew and Jalene, Michael and Sam, Madison, Jack, and Chloe, and through her great-grandchildren, Matthew, Owen, and Liam. Their lives stand as part of the lasting imprint she leaves behind, and her memory will remain close to all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Vivian Gruennert, brother-in-law Lance Messmer and by her brother, Robert Gruennert. As her family and friends remember Barb, they will hold close the example of a woman who worked faithfully, served willingly, and remained connected to those she loved. Her life will be remembered with gratitude, affection, and enduring respect.
